You can learn a bit about me below, but what’s Treebeard all about? I was struck by the imaginary world of Middle Earth as a boy and Treebeard the old Ent (most prominent in the Two Towers) was my favorite character. Plus I love trees and forests, and seek solace in them. I am working on a relationship with arborists to donate a portion of all my playing profits to reforestation. I want my grand-daughter to have trees to climb!! Look for a new video or slideshow to accompany “Ode to Treebeard” here soon.
Tim’s been a performing acoustic guitarist songwriter, voice-over artist and stage actor for over 35 years, he was classically trained at the Chicago Musical College in the late 70’s. He gravitated to the folk roots of Chicago’s Old Town and live music venues while raising a family as a professional sales career. He moved to Boulder in 2009 to pursue a career in music and voice inspired by the mountains.
A prolific songwriter, Tim lists his many influences as Dylan, Taylor, Gorka, Joni M, Prine and many others. Merkel hosts an open mic in the mountain town of Allenspark outside of Estes Park and he performs at open mics, coffee and wine bars and restaurants all over the front range. He was featured at Denver’s historic Swallow Hill Music Assn.
His radio work included live radio theater broadcasts, and news communications on Boulder based Colorado Audio Information Network, and his private voice over work. Residing in Louisville, he previously hosted the morning show “Merkel in the Mornings” at KRBR 1470am radio in Estes Park. He is negotiating with an internet radio station to host a weekly one hour show interviewing local Colorado musicians to highlight 30 minutes of their live performances and let the listeners get to know them.
